What billing address or zip code do I enter when using my gift card online?
When you use your prepaid Visa or Mastercard gift card for an online purchase, you may be asked to enter a name, billing address, and/or zip code.
Good news – prepaid gift cards are not tied to specific names or addresses. This means you can enter any valid U.S. physical address (not a P.O. box).
Billing Address Information
-
Use your home address.
- You can use any valid U.S. physical address (not a P.O. box). However, we recommend using your current home address and zip code for the billing address.
- Since shipping typically requires a mailing address, using the same billing address streamlines the online checkout process.
-
No registration needed.
- A pre-paid gift card isn’t tied to a specific name or billing address.
Reasons for Declines
A transaction may be declined if:
-
The merchant does not accept prepaid cards.
- Some online stores only accept traditional credit or debit cards.
- Some online stores only accept traditional credit or debit cards.
-
The card balance is less than the purchase amount.
- Visit our Check Balance page to see the available balance on your card.
- Make sure your card has enough funds to cover the full purchase amount.
- At restaurants (and other establishments where tipping is common, such as nail/hair salons), cards are typically pre-authorized for 20% over the total amount in order to account for tipping.
- This means if your balance is less than the total amount + 20% for the pre-authorization, the card will decline.
- In this case, simply ask the establishment to charge a specific, exact amount (that is less than the card balance) as a credit transaction.
- Visit our Check Balance page to see the available balance on your card.
