If you're not getting the one-time verification code needed to complete card setup, activate your gift, or add your card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, your phone or carrier may be filtering messages from Perfect Gift's short code. This article walks you through how to fix it on iPhone, Android, and through your carrier — and covers the email fallback option.
Short code: Perfect Gift sends all SMS verification codes from short code 71689. This is the number to look for in your spam folder or blocked list.
Tip: If you can't get SMS working quickly, select Email instead of Phone when prompted for your verification method on perfectgift.com/activate. Check your spam/junk folder in email too.
Step 1: Check your spam or filtered messages folder
Before anything else, check whether the text arrived but got filtered. The steps differ by device:
iPhone (iOS)
- Open the Messages app
- Scroll to the top and tap Filters (top-left corner)
- Tap Junk or Unknown Senders
- Look for a message from 71689
- If you find it, open it and tap Report as Not Junk to move it to your main inbox
Android (Samsung / Messages by Google)
- Open your Messages app
- Tap the three-dot menu (top-right) and select Spam & blocked
- Look for a message from 71689
- If found, tap it and select Not spam or Restore to move it back
Note: Steps may vary slightly by Android manufacturer. If you don't see a Spam folder, search your messages for '71689'.
Step 2: Make sure 71689 is not blocked on your phone
iPhone (iOS)
- Go to Settings > Messages
- Scroll down and tap Blocked Contacts
- Check if 71689 appears in the list
- If it does, swipe left on it and tap Unblock
Android (Samsung Messages)
- Open the Messages app
- Tap the three-dot menu > Settings > Block numbers and messages (or Block numbers)
- Look for 71689 in the blocked list
- Tap the minus icon or Unblock next to it if it appears
Android (Google Messages)
- Open the Messages app
- Tap your profile photo or the three-dot menu > Spam & blocked
- Look for 71689
- If found, tap and hold the conversation, then tap Unblock
Step 3: Allow messages from unknown senders
If your phone filters all messages from numbers not in your contacts, Perfect Gift's short code will be silently blocked.
iPhone (iOS)
- Go to Settings > Messages
- Scroll to Filter Unknown Senders
- Toggle it OFF
- Request a new verification code, then turn the filter back on if preferred
Android
- Open the Messages app
- Go to Settings > Spam protection (or Message blocking)
- Turn off any setting that blocks messages from numbers not in your contacts
Step 4: Contact your carrier if texts are still not arriving
Some carriers block short-code messages at the network level through spam-filtering features (e.g., AT&T ActiveArmor, Verizon Call Filter, T-Mobile Scam Shield). If the steps above don't work, call your carrier and ask them to:
- Confirm that short-code messages are not blocked on your line
- Whitelist or allow short code 71689
- Check whether any spam or scam filtering is preventing delivery
Tip: Let your carrier know the short code is 71689 and that the service is Perfect Gift (a legitimate US gift card platform). Carriers can typically whitelist a short code on the spot.
Other quick things to check
- Signal: Toggle Airplane Mode on and off to refresh your cellular connection, then request a new code.
- Do Not Disturb / Focus Mode: These can suppress incoming texts. Disable them temporarily and request a new code.
- Full inbox: If your message storage is full, new texts won't arrive. Delete some messages and try again.
- Software update: Outdated iOS or Android software can cause SMS delivery issues. Check for and install pending updates.
- Restart your phone: A simple reboot clears temporary network glitches.
